University Wellness Initiatives

According to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 1 in 5 adults in America experience a mental illness. More specifically one-half of all chronic mental illness begins by the age of 14; three-quarters by the age of 24. This means that by the time student are enrolled in colleges/universities, they may be dealing with a mental health disorder.  Untreated mental health concerns only escalate with time as the typical stressors of higher education build,  leaving students with maladaptive coping skills.  According to NAMI 90% of those who die by suicide have an underlying mental illness, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. and the 2nd leading cause of death in adults ages 18-25. Having a mental health illness does not have to be a barrier to students thriving.

Look no further than Fabiola’s 3 part wellness series addresses these topics as well as wellness care planning in a fun and interactive way.  Now is the time to take action, your students will thank you.
